Services & Precision Repair

At Topaz & Weston Instruments, we handle everything from seasonal maintenance to "basket-case" structural restorations. While we offer a wide range of fixed-price services, the unique nature of stringed instruments means that many projects require a custom estimate.

Bench Standards:

  • Hourly Rate: $150/hr (for custom and non-standard repairs)

  • Minimum Bench Fee: $150

  • Estimates: If your required service isn't listed below, please bring the instrument in for a professional evaluation.

1. Maintenance & Setups

The foundation of a great-playing instrument. All setups include a deep cleaning, hardware tightening, and precision adjustments to the nut, saddle, pickup system and truss rod.

Standard Setup: $150

Most 6, 8, and 12-string instruments.

Floating Bridge Setup: $175

For electric guitars with Floyd Rose or similar systems.

Plek Fret Dress: $350

Plek Dress & Setup + Stainless Steel fret + Jewel polish: $475

(Jewel polish is only applicable to SS frets and, is done by hand after the Plek’s process, creating a mirror like shine to your SS frets)

  • Multi-scale- Plek dress & Setup- Nickel/ SS frets : $500

  • Multi-scale- Plek dress & Setup- SS Frets+ Jewel polish : $650

Includes a full setup. The Plek levels frets under real string tension for perfect action.

  • Strings: We stock D’Addario XL ($10.50) and EJ Series ($12.50). Bass strings are available at market price. Note: Parts and strings are sold only in conjunction with repair services.

2. Advanced Fretwork & Refrets

We specialize in bringing worn-out necks back to life. Every refret we perform is treated as a complete instrument overhaul to ensure modern playability on any vintage or contemporary neck.

  • Plek-Assisted Refrets: $925 – $975 (Standard cases)

    • Includes a complete instrument service.

    • Includes a new hand-carved bone nut.

  • Jewel Finish: Available upon request on Stainless Steel frets.

  • Complex Cases: Instruments with lacquered/bound fingerboards (e.g., vintage Les Paul Customs or maple-board Strats) or those requiring inlay work will be quoted upon inspection.

3. Structural Repairs & Restorations

Neck Resets

We currently accept neck resets for C.F. Martin, Taylor, and Gibson guitars.

  • Taylor (NT Neck Joint): $50 + Setup

  • Older Taylor (Pre-NT): $450 + Setup

  • C.F. Martin: Starting at $1,000

  • Gibson: Quoted on a case-by-case basis.

Bridge & Body Work

  • Bridge Re-glue (Standard): $350 (Includes removal, surface matching, and re-gluing).

  • Bridge Re-glue (Complex): Up to $600 (For deformed tops or damaged bridge plates).

  • Hand-Carved Nuts: $150 + materials

  • Acoustic Saddles: $85 (Standard) / $150 (Compensated) + materials

4. Specialized Services

Electronics & Pickups

From simple pot replacements to complex semi-hollow body wiring.

  • Rate: $150/hr

  • Most common tasks (pickup swaps, switch replacements) are completed within one hour. Custom routing for new components is available.

Finish Work

We work with traditional Nitrocellulose lacquer and UV-cured Polyester.

  • Note: We provide finish work only in the context of a repair or new component. We do not offer full instrument stripping and refinishing.
