The Topaz & Weston Difference

Where Art Meets Engineering.

The New Standard of Professional Lutherie.

A great guitar is a living, breathing instrument. It requires more than just a "tune-up"—it requires a master’s touch and a scientist’s precision. At Topaz & Weston Instruments, we’ve combined two lifetimes of world-class expertise to ensure your instrument plays better than the day it was born.

A Partnership of Excellence

When Teresa Topaz—Nevada’s premier restoration specialist—joined forces with Ian Weston—a global Plek support expert and applied scientist—the result was a workshop unlike any other in North America.

We don't just fix guitars; we optimize them. From our sun-drenched workshop in Las Vegas, we serve everyone from local legends to touring professionals, providing authorized service for the industry’s most prestigious brands: C.F. Martin, Taylor, Santa Cruz, Lowden, and more.

The Topaz & Weston Difference

1. The Plek Revolution

We are one of the few shops in the world where the person operating the Plek machine has ten years of experience in it’s ownership and operation. Our Plek Station scans your neck under real string tension, levelling frets to an accuracy of .0002 inches. It is mathematical perfection for your fretboard.

2. Specialized Desert Restoration

The Mojave climate is notoriously hard on wood. We specialize in structural "saves"—closing cracks, resetting necks, and re-gluing bridges that have succumbed to the heat. We don't just repair the damage; we "climate-proof" your instrument for the long haul by also educating you and helping you create a safe environment for your instruments.

3. The Player’s Perspective

Because we are musicians ourselves, we know that "factory specs" aren't enough. Every setup we perform is tailored to your specific attack, your string gauge, and your musical genre. If it isn't perfect, it doesn't leave the shop.

Who
we are

At Topaz & Weston Instruments, we believe that a guitar is more than just wood and wire—it is an engineering marvel and a musician’s soul. Based in Las Vegas, Nevada, our shop represents the fusion of two lifetimes dedicated to the craft of lutherie.

By combining old-world hand-tool traditions with 21st-century computer-controlled precision, we provide a level of care that is rare in the industry. Whether it’s a routine setup or a "basket-case" restoration, our mission is simple: To keep the music going.

Setup work

A common misconception among guitarists is that a new instrument comes "ready to play" from the factory. In reality, a guitar is an organic, shifting assembly of wood and metal that is never truly finished until it is tailored to the individual holding it.

Plek’d Fretwork

For decades, guitar players had to settle for a "good" setup. With the Plek Station, we have moved beyond "good" into the realm of mathematical perfection.

The Plek is a German-engineered, computer-controlled (CNC) machine that scans and levels your frets with an accuracy of .0002 inches. But it isn’t just a machine—it is a sophisticated diagnostic tool that allows us to see exactly what is happening with your guitar under real-world conditions.
